The leriko and the fowls

This is the story of a man who built a fowl house in the bush. He put his fowls in it and went away. In the morning he fed them and counted them. A Leriko came and took away on at midday and ate it. In the evening the man sought it in vain. He returned to the village and said,
“ Today I fed my fowls and they were all there, I came again and one I could not find."
In the morning I went away to feed them and saw thy were all there, but when he had gone back to his house the Leriko came and took out another.
At evening he went and searched for it in vain. He said,
“ I came and fed the fowls and they were all right. What can be destroying them?”
So he stayed and build a shelter and watched, and when the Leriko came flying to take one he shot it. The man then shouted to his village folk,
“ You folk there come quickly, I have caught that creature which has been eating my fowls."
They all came with clubs and smashed it to pieces.
