Minutes of the meeting held on Wednesday 24th August, 2011, Central School Library, 12:23pm, minutes taken by Pauline Kalo, secretary to VLA.

 

Present: Pauline Kalo (Supreme Court), Nellie Caleb (National Library), Kym Freriks (PacLII), Vatiseva George (Central School), Linda Bakokoto (USP Library), Sylvie Tapasei (USP Library), Rachel Kara (VTC) Florida Nixion (Public Works)

Cake sale before & during meeting.

1. Welcome

The chairlady welcomed everyone present at the meeting and thanks all for attending the recent I.P talks by Kathy Moore at USP and VITE and thanks all who have brought cakes for the cake sale today. She gives time for Vatiseva to introduce her Library.

 

2.  Central school Library

Vatiseva : Gives an interesting talk about activities she does with her all classes that come to the Library.  Example:

Classes 1 - she tells stories to or shows a DVD.

Class 2 - Before a child returns a book, she must know all the vocabs in the book.

Class 3 - Before a child return the book he must draw a picture bases on a summary of the story.

Budget: The School purchases books for her.  A catalogue of all books is kept in the Principle’s office.

Internet : The school has an internet room with 35 PC connected to the internet.

The Library serves both students from Primary and Secondary.

 

3.  VLA workshop

Kym can no longer run the workshop as she has work trips this year. 

Sylvie: suggestion if Vilimainia who is coming over to work at USP Library could do it.  She would need to ask her. 

All agreed that topics would be:

- Library budget

- Budget proposal

- Ordering via internet

 

Suggested people to do a session on doing a Library budget: Evelynne Kalo, (Vanuatu Post) Moana Matariki (WestPac Bank)

 

Action: Pauline to follow up with people.

 

3. VLA fundraising; walkathon

Sylvie:  Last executive meeting it was decided that VLA will have a walkathon on the 5th of October.  Tick-a-box forms will be handed out to all members particapting in the walk.  Members will wear T-shirts at that time.

Silas Garae has designed the T-shirts and we will give to Vila Handprints to print.

- T-shirts; Polo shirt & T-shirts (round neck)  all will be Maroon

 

 

Action:

- Sylvie: Email members to give sizes & to email people to confirm order for kids.

- Kym:  Prepare sheets & send out on email.

- Florida: Check with municipal to use front stage area,

 

 

4. TSCU

Sylvie: Need to write a letter to the Scholarship Office and find out why they have removed Library Studies from its priority field of studies.

5. VLA constitution review

Linda has accepted to review the VLA constitution and recommend changes.

Members can email her with suggested areas for review.

 

6. Library visits

Our next visit will be the Nursing school.
